(the Very Revd) Chip Edgar

Dean

803.256.0545, extention 1

Fr Chip Edgar became the founding Rector (Sr Pastor) of Church of the Apostles in March 2004. In September of 2014, Church of the Apostles was consecrated as the Cathedral for the Southeast Region of PEARUSA by our bishop, David Bryan, and Fr Edgar was installed as the new Cathedral’s Dean.

Chip and his wife, Beth, have five children.  “Our three oldest kids are now out of the house, and successfully making their ways in the world, leaving a much smaller group at home,” he says, “but I resonate completely with St John who wrote, ‘I have no greater joy than this: to hear that my children are walking in the truth’” (3 John 4).

Regarding the parish, Fr Edgar comments that "we are people who have benefited from God's grace, and we hope to be people who live that grace and make it known to others."  Raised in Huntsville, Alabama, Chip received a BA in Physical Education from Wheaton College.  He then worked as a Campus Minister for the Coalition for Christian Outreach before studying theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and The School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.  Chip was ordained a presbyter in May, 1994 and served parishes in Tennessee, Florida, and Illinois before being called to Church of the Apostles.
